conversationmaps is a communications paradigm based on the idea that everyday voices, collected, juxtaposed, and re-circulated, can educate and stimulate difficult but important conversations among individuals who rarely meet.

conversationmaps is a unique genre blending ethnographic research, graphic design, and innovative dissemination techniques, all of which are tailored to the specific situation and publics they seek to address. Conversationmaps borrows from and speaks to the gaps between the guidebook, the travelogue, the map, the oral history, the photo essay.

conversationmaps uses the web, place-based audio and video delivery systems, and just plain paper circulars to reach diverse audiences. They can be created on any topic - from traumatic social memory to immigration reform to environmental protection.

Finally, conversationmaps is an experiment in getting the fruits of social research back out into society, so that they can be experienced in the contexts in which they matter.
